The curriculum includes coding and classification procedures, reimbursement systems, resource exploration, technology and methods required to optimize the use of information in the areas of nursing, clinical care, pharmacy, public health and medical research.
The program was designed so that students examine the role of health information management (HIM) and learn how health care data is collected and stored in electronic health records (EHRs), develop leadership and management skills, perform system analysis of the different types of health information systems, and study legal, privacy and security risks involved with HIM and electronic medical records.
