Supervised management activities in an affiliated healthcare facility allowing the student to develop insight, understanding and skill in medical record/health information practices, procedures and administration.
Discussion of current issues relevant to the health information management profession.
Student research project applying research principles and methodology to clinical data. Use of statistical software in laboratory section. Presentation of findings in written articles and oral presentation.
Fundamentals and tools of systems analysis. Students participate in a systems analysis project for directed practice experience. Focus is on healthcare computer applications and facilities design and layout.
Emphasis on personnel management, including hiring, discipline, union relations, in-service education and productivity measurement. Students develop and present an in-service program.

Introduction of fundamental concepts in pathophysiology. Provides students with an opportunity to present preliminary research for critique by peers and faculty. Prerequisite(s): BHIS 499 and BHIS 500 or consent of the instructor.
Students demonstrate a mastery of health informatics knowledge concepts and skills, including theoretical synthesis, integration with practice and critical evaluation.

Students will analyze case studies and discuss the many issues concerning transformation of healthcare into a more value-driven and patient-focused system.

Health communication is an emerging field in which professional communicators inform, influence and motivate individual, institutional and public audiences about important health issues. This course examines theories of interpersonal, organizational and mass communication relevant to the professional communicator in the health field. Review strategies of persuasion, the relationship between attitudes and behavior, and the changing nature of health and health delivery in the United States. Evaluate successful and unsuccessful health information campaigns.
